Lai Chi Wo, situated in Sha Tau Kok in North East New Territories, is a part of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geo-park, was established about 400 years ago by two Hakka clans, the Wong's and the Tsang's, from Mainland China. The place is of historical and cultural significance.

By tracing the genealogy of the ancestors of the Tsang’s clan and Wong’s clan came from Dongguan. The origin of the Tsang’s clan could be traced back to Shandong in northern China while the ancestor of the Wong’s clan was in the military of Ming Dynasty . The descendants of Wong’s clan settled down in Chu Mun Tin and became neighbor with the Tsang’s family. Afterward , Wong’s clan cleared land at LCW , inviting the Tsang’s family to settle together in LCW. As the population in the LCW expanded , the 4th generation of the Wong ‘s family moved to So Lo Pun, with one branch continued to stay in LCW, and the Tsang’s family split into Ngau Shi Wu and Siu Tan.  Another Wong’s family moved form Kengzi through Dapeng by sea to settle in LCW, and the clan’s migrated to Tsung Pak Long in Sheung Shui in 1904.

The daily needs and security of the villagers stimulated the need of an alliance among villages in the Sha Tau Kok area.  Lai Chi Wo was allied with the other six villages in its neighborhood,  So Lo Pun (鎖羅盤), Sam A Tsuen (三椏村), Mui Tsz Lam (梅子林), Kap Tong (蛤塘), Ngau Shi Wu (牛屎湖) and Siu Tan (小灘) to form the “Hing Chun Yeuk”. As Lai Chi Wo village was located in the center of these villages, it became the core of the alliance hub.
